Maryla Rodowicz, one of the most recognisable figures in Polish pop music, was born here, and that connection to serious musical talent runs deep in Zielona Góra. The city developed a strong big-beat scene from the 1960s onward, producing bands including Lubusze, Inni, and Waganci, the latter founded by composer Jarosław Kukulski. That same era of homegrown creativity sits alongside a classical tradition anchored by the Zielona Góra Philharmonic, established in 1960 and still presenting weekly concerts through its season at the Filharmonia Zielonogórska. Today, live music spreads across a range of active venues: Café Noir and Piwnica Artystyczna Kawon cover concerts and events, Harlem pub draws Polish jazz musicians particularly during the annual grape harvest festival, and Hydrozagadka, run by the city's Culture Centre, keeps a steady programme of live performances running throughout the year.
