The city that gave Polish blues its founding father is a more significant stop on any music itinerary than its size suggests. Tadeusz Nalepa, widely recognized as the father of Polish blues, formed his groundbreaking bands Blackout in 1965 and Breakout in 1968 here, shaping the direction of Polish rock and blues for generations. That legacy is still actively honored through the annual Breakout Days festival, and a monument to Nalepa stands on 3 Maja Street. Jazz trumpeter Tomasz Stańko, also born in Rzeszow, composed the trumpet-call played from the city's own town hall. For contemporary live music, Pub Rock draws local and touring rock acts, Café Ewa hosts acoustic nights and open mics, and Estrada Rzeszowska anchors the city's broader cultural calendar, including the Tony Festival, which spans indie, electronic, and synth pop.
