Live Music in Curitiba

Indie Curitibano, a genre blending indie and alternative rock with Brazilian rhythms and melodies, gives this southern Brazilian city a sound it can genuinely call its own. That local identity runs deep: Curitiba was one of the urban centers where Brazilian punk rock and hardcore punk began taking shape in the late 1970s and early 1980s, with bands like Carne Podre among the earliest to emerge. Decades later, RADIOLA Records, founded here in 2012, built its reputation as an electronic music label operating out of what is described as the first coworking space in Brazil dedicated entirely to electronic music. For live shows today, the city ranges from the open-air scale of Pedreira Paulo Leminski to the jazz focus of The Jazz Room and D House Curitiba, with Teatro Positivo and Teatro Guaira handling larger productions and clubs like Live Curitiba covering the contemporary end of the spectrum.
