Jazz has deep roots in this Polish coastal city, where the Sopot Jazz Festival dates back to 1956, making it one of the oldest jazz festivals in the country. That festival, reactivated in 2011, remains a cornerstone of Polish jazz culture, sitting alongside the Sopot International Song Festival, which has drawn international performers to the Forest Opera since 1964 and played a rare role during the Cold War as a meeting point for Eastern Bloc and Western musicians. Today, live music spreads across a range of venues, from the open-air Forest Opera and the Polish Philharmonic Concert Hall to intimate spots like TAN Music Club and Le Bar at Sofitel Grand Sopot. The alternative rock band Ścianka, formed here in 1994 and known for blending experimental and psychedelic elements with jazz, adds a local creative thread to a city that consistently punches above its size on the European music circuit.
