Few cities its size have reshaped global music the way Perth has. Its geographic isolation, rather than stunting the scene, pushed artists to develop sounds that defied prevailing trends, producing Tame Impala's psychedelic rock and Pendulum's drum and bass, two acts that genuinely altered the course of their respective genres worldwide. That same insular pressure gave rise to Perth Indie, a melodic, guitar-driven sound blending indie rock, pop, and electronic music with a distinctly local character. Today the city backs this legacy with a strong live infrastructure: the Rosemount Hotel and Mojos Bar anchor the grassroots end, Freo.Social and the Fremantle Arts Centre serve mid-tier touring acts, and RAC Arena pulls the biggest international names. Community radio station RTRFM continues to thread these layers together, keeping emerging artists connected to a scene that consistently punches well beyond its isolation.
