Few Australian cities punch above their weight in rock history quite like Geelong. Chrissy Amphlett was born here, Magic Dirt formed out of its skating scene, and the city is widely recognized as a pillar of Australian pub rock, having also produced bands like GOD and Bored! That lineage continues through Anti Fade Records, the independent label founded here in 2011 that has become one of Australia's most respected outlets for garage, punk, shoegaze, and psych, anchoring an annual showcase called Jerk Fest at the Barwon Club Hotel each year since 2015. On any given night, the live circuit runs deep, with venues like Pistol Pete's Food n Blues covering the blues end, the Wool Exchange bringing in established and indie acts, and The Workers Club keeping the indie guitar scene active. Geelong is a working music city, not a footnote.
