Few Mediterranean cities can claim a live music institution dating back to 1893, but Antalya's Municipal Band, originally founded by young musicians from prominent Greek families in the city, gives the scene genuine historical roots. Today that breadth continues across a wide spectrum of venues, from the ancient theater at Aspendos hosting the country's first opera and ballet festival, to The 251 Soul at Akra Antalya presenting jazz, blues, funk, and soul seven nights a week. Outdoor stages, intimate pub stages, and formal concert halls coexist across the city, with the Konyaaltı Open Air Theatre seating nearly 5,000 and the Atatürk Cultural Center hosting ballet, opera, and orchestral work year-round. The International Antalya Piano Festival, running since 1999, and the Akra Jazz Festival further anchor the city as a destination serious about live performance across multiple genres.
