A city better known for Joan of Arc than for its amplifiers, Rouen has quietly built one of northern France's most credible live music scenes. Le 106, a contemporary music venue housed in repurposed docks on the quayside, runs 80 to 90 concerts a year and organizes the Rush Festival, an annual event founded in 2011 that blends music with visual arts and digital media. Classical music holds equally firm ground, with the Opéra de Rouen Normandie and the Rouen Philharmonic Orchestra both active in the city, and a regional conservatory that has trained prominent musicians in classical and jazz. The city has also produced genuinely exportable artists, including indie pop act Tahiti 80, producer Petit Biscuit, and rapper Rilès. From the Zénith to the intimate Trianon Transatlantique, Rouen's venues cover serious ground across genres.
