Every June 21st, the streets of Angers transform into an open-air stage, with dozens of free concerts spanning rock, jazz, blues, hip-hop, and classical music for the Fête de la Musique, an event the city has built a particular reputation for over four decades. That spirit of range defines the local scene year-round, with dedicated venues like Le Chabada anchoring original music, the Grand Théâtre d'Angers offering a more formal setting dating to 1871, and L'Amphitéa handling large-scale productions. The annual Tempo Rives festival, running since 2009 along the banks of the Maine river, brings together international acts and homegrown artists each summer. Angers has produced notable musicians including composer Henri Dutilleux and jazz pianist Jacques Loussier, and its current crop of local acts ranges from the jazz manouche of Swing to Swing to the electro work of Thylacine, who maintains his composing studio in the city.
