Few cities of Gijón's size can claim that Bruce Springsteen, Tina Turner, Dire Straits, and The Rolling Stones each chose it as one of their only Spanish stops on major international tours. That distinction sits alongside the "Xixon Sound" movement, which brought artists like Australian Blonde, Nosoträsh, and Nacho Vegas together and established the city as one of Spain's capitals of independent rock. Today the live scene ranges from the intimate jazz sessions at Meidinerz Jazz Club and weekend Latin nights at Discoteca Go, to the punk, hardcore, and metal lineup of the annual Tsunami Xixón festival at Parque Hermanos Castro. The historic Teatro Jovellanos anchors classical programming including the Gijón Piano Festival, while the Lanna Festival, launched in 2023, channels electronic and techno music against the Asturian coastline. The breadth is genuine and the infrastructure to support it is firmly in place.
