Live Music in Edmonton

Alberta's self-declared country music capital has a claim worth taking seriously: CFCW is the oldest country radio station in Canada, Royalty Records has operated as Canada's oldest country label since 1974, and k.d. lang built her global career here. But country is only one thread. The Yardbird Suite has anchored Edmonton's jazz identity since 1957, earning recognition from Downbeat magazine as a great jazz venue, while the Edmonton Folk Music Festival has drawn international attention since its 1980 launch. On any given night, the breadth of the live scene is hard to ignore, spanning Rogers Place for major touring acts, the Starlite Room for local and mid-level touring bands, and the Commercial Hotel Blues on Whyte, which has hosted live blues nightly for over four decades.
