Norway's first jazz band took shape in Bodø in 1921, a fact that still anchors the city's musical identity more than a century later. That lineage carries forward through Bodø Jazz Open, an annual international festival that draws local, national, and international artists to celebrate the city's deep roots in the genre. The live infrastructure has grown to match that ambition: Stormen Cultural Center, opened in 2014, offers a 900-seat main hall with world-class acoustics alongside the 460-capacity rock venue Sinus in its basement, while smaller stages like Dama Di and Beddingen Kulturhus keep the scene active at street level. Bodø's reach extends well beyond jazz, having produced Caroline Ailin, co-writer of Dua Lipa's "New Rules" and "Dance the Night," alongside rock acts, hip-hop artists, and ISAK, whose drummer Aleksander Kostopoulos hails from the city.
