Live Music in Greenock

Whiteout, the Britpop-era guitar band that became the first act to sign with Silvertone Records after The Stone Roses, came from Greenock, and that alone signals a town with more musical ambition than its size might suggest. Folk-rock pioneer Al Stewart, born here in 1945, and the long-running Inverclyde Music Festival, first staged at Greenock Town Hall in 1914, add further weight to a surprisingly layered history. The town's indie credentials stretch back further still through Slow Dazzle, a fanzine and promotions operation that brought bands including Primal Scream to local stages during the 1980s. Today, the Beacon Arts Centre serves as the primary venue for live music in the town. Greenock's scene may not be large, but its track record of producing significant artists and sustaining genuine musical culture across multiple generations makes it worth serious attention.
