Few Scottish cities of Dunfermline's size can point to a musical lineage running from a medieval song school at Dunfermline Abbey through to internationally recognised rock acts. The city produced Nazareth, The Skids, and Big Country, whose Stuart Adamson forged a sound that fused rock drive with Scottish folk motifs, while Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull and singer-actress Barbara Dickson also trace their roots here. That folk thread runs deep: Dunfermline was one of the main centres of the folk music revival in the 1960s, and the Folk Club, established in 1961, still meets almost every Wednesday. Today, PJ Molloys anchors the live circuit as Fife's premier venue, Carnegie Hall provides a grand performing arts stage, and 1703 Dunfermline delivers local and national talent at least three nights a week, making the city a genuinely active stop on Scotland's live music map.
