Snow Patrol formed at the University of Dundee in 1993, and the Average White Band grew out of the city's art college scene in the early 1970s. That lineage alone signals something serious about what this city produces. Dundee's live music infrastructure spans the century-old grandeur of Caird Hall through to Beat Generator Live!, Church, and Conroy's Basement, where the Make-That-A-Take Records collective runs a DIY punk operation with genuine conviction. The city's own Music Walk of Fame acknowledges a local output that stretches across funk, soul, indie rock, folk, and punk, and independent labels like Juteopolis Records and Wretched Records continue signing and developing artists working across that full spread. With LIVEHOUSE launching in phases from May 2025 as one of Scotland's largest event spaces, Dundee is not coasting on its history.
