Whisky a Go Go
The World Famous Whisky a Go Go originated the "go-go" dancing craze, inspired by a Parisian discotheque and featuring a suspended, glass-walled DJ booth where female DJs would dance. Opening on January 16, 1964, in West Hollywood, California, it is a legendary music venue on the Sunset Strip, designated a historic cultural landmark. Architecturally distinctive with its iconic marquee, the venue embodies West Hollywood's rock culture. Its interior features original tufted-red leather booths, a low stage, standing-room areas, and a mezzanine balcony. The Whisky a Go Go has historically programmed a wide range of genres including folk-pop, psychedelia, punk, new wave, heavy metal, hard rock, and alternative rock, launching the careers of numerous artists. It continues to host live performances, maintaining its legacy as a dynamic venue.
