Knust
Housed in a former cattle slaughterhouse in Hamburg’s St. Pauli district, Knust is a medium-sized live club that opened in its current location in 2003 after 25 years in the city’s Old Town. The venue’s name comes from a North German word for the crust of a loaf of bread, considered the best part. Its main hall retains the raw industrial character of the original slaughterhouse, with top-notch lighting and sound systems that create an intimate, up-close concert atmosphere. A generous bar area sits outside the hall, and a courtyard offers space during warmer months. Knust programs a wide range of genres including indie, metal, jazz, rock, hip hop, punk, reggae, electronic, folk, and funk, and also screens FC St. Pauli home games on a large screen. The club was named best live club in Germany by Spex magazine in 1992 and 1993. Located at Neuer Kamp 30, near the Feldstraße subway station, it remains a fixture of Hamburg’s live music scene.
