Portsmouth Guildhall hosted the first full performance of Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon. The venue continues to stage concerts in its 2000-seat auditorium while The Wedgewood Rooms books national touring acts in its 400-capacity main room and The Edge holds smaller shows for 100. Local artists including Roland Orzabal of Tears For Fears, Chad Hugo and Shae Haley of N.E.R.D., Mick Jones of Foreigner, and Joe Jackson grew up in the city, which also supported 1960s rhythm and blues nights at spots like Kimbells and later played a documented role in UK rave culture. Dozens of pubs such as The Fox, The Kings, O'Neill's, and The Fleet plus the Portsmouth Pyramids and Theatre Royal keep live music running year-round with open mics, tribute bands, and original acts.
