Live Music in Freiburg

Few cities of Freiburg's size can claim both a pioneering role in historically informed performance practice and a jazz venue that has hosted Miles Davis and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. The Hochschule für Musik Freiburg built a continuous early music tradition after World War II, directly producing the internationally recognized Freiburg Baroque Orchestra. That same appetite for serious music history extends to jazz: the Modern Jazz Group Freiburg, founded around 1954, was among Germany's earliest modern jazz ensembles, and the Jazzhaus has staged roughly 250 concerts and club nights annually since 1987.
