Few cities can point to a single street corner and say a global music movement started here, but Coventry can. In the late 1970s, Jerry Dammers founded 2 Tone Records in the city, launching a genre that fused Jamaican ska and reggae with British punk and turned The Specials and The Selecter into national figures. That legacy sits alongside a proven track record in electronic music too, with The Eclipse becoming the first UK venue to hold a 24-hour rave license in the late 1980s. Today the city sustains a genuine spread of live spaces, from the Coventry Building Society Arena pulling international headliners down to intimate rooms like The Tin Music and Arts, Bodega, and Tower of Song, where local acts still find a platform built on serious musical foundations.
