Few cities of Wolverhampton's size have left a mark this deep on British music. Slade formed here in 1963, went on to become the best-selling British singles act of the 1970s, and their influence reached far enough to shape the sound of Nirvana, The Ramones, and The Sex Pistols. Beverley Knight, Goldie, Cornershop, and trap metal pioneer Scarlxrd all came out of the same city, pointing to a music culture that runs across genres rather than clustering around one. That culture has a physical home to match: The Halls Wolverhampton, comprising the 3,400-capacity Civic Hall and the 1,200-capacity Wulfrun Hall, reopened in 2023 following a 50 million pound refurbishment, while KK's Steel Mill keeps the city's rock credentials intact and North Street Social pulls in live bands and DJ nights throughout the week.
