Home to the Dreamville Festival, co-founded by J. Cole, and the world's largest urban bluegrass festival, Raleigh punches well above its weight as a live music destination. The city has produced acts spanning a genuinely wide range of genres, from the heavy metal of Corrosion of Conformity, formed here in 1982, to the alt-country of American Aquarium and the R&B funk of Boulevards. Venues range from the 20,601-capacity Coastal Credit Union Music Park at Walnut Creek down to intimate clubs like Kings and The Pour House Music Hall and Record Shop, giving the city infrastructure for both arena-level touring acts and ground-level discovery. The annual Hopscotch Music Festival, running since 2010 and spanning over 140 bands across downtown, remains the clearest expression of what Raleigh does best: a scene broad enough to hold punk, hip-hop, folk, and metal under the same roof.
