Live Music in Phoenix

Alice Cooper formed his band here, the Meat Puppets helped define American hardcore punk, and Dyke & The Blazers put Phoenix's Broadway Road on the funk map with "Funky Broadway" long before Wilson Pickett made the song famous. That kind of range, spanning shock rock, thrash metal via Flotsam and Jetsam, emo with Jimmy Eat World, and a growing hip-hop scene anchored by Injury Reserve, tells you something about what Phoenix has built over decades. The current venue landscape reflects the same breadth: Crescent Ballroom and Valley Bar anchor downtown's indie and touring circuit, The Nash Jazz Club runs nearly 300 nights of jazz a year, and The Rhythm Room has held down blues for over two decades. Phoenix is not one genre city. It never has been.
