Badfinger, one of the defining acts of 1970s power pop, grew from The Iveys, a group formed in Swansea in 1961, which says something about how deep this city's musical roots run. That lineage continues in a scene that now ranges from the 3,500-capacity Swansea Building Society Arena, which opened in 2022 and draws major touring acts, to grassroots venues like Sin City and The Bunkhouse, which anchor the city's hard rock, metal, and alternative communities. Bonnie Rogues runs live music six nights a week and is considered the home of live music in Swansea, while Patti Pavilion, originally a winter garden rebuilt in 1918, has survived arson and neglect to remain a working venue. Swansea indie, a blend of indie rock, post-punk, and alternative rock with an emphasis on melody and atmosphere, gives the local scene a recognisable identity that sets it apart from comparable Welsh cities.
