Rooted in a musical tradition stretching back to the early 1900s, when 72 residents belonged to the Musical Society of Kalisz, this mid-sized Polish city has steadily built a live music identity that punches above its weight. The Bluesonalia festival, running since 1995 at the Center for Culture and Art, has established Konin as a genuine blues and blues-rock destination within the Greater Poland region, drawing enthusiasts annually to one of the area's oldest festivals of its kind. The city also hosts what is recognized as the oldest and largest children's song and dance festival in Poland and Europe, a fixture since 1979. Alongside these events, Konin has produced serious musical talent, including Academy Award-winning composer Jan A. P. Kaczmarek and acclaimed pop artist Reni Jusis, whose careers lend the city a credibility that extends well beyond its borders.
