A small Swiss city with a disproportionate footprint in European music, Fribourg has shaped industrial rock, sustained one of Switzerland's most important independent venues, and maintained a choral tradition that puts tens of thousands of singers on stage annually. Fri-Son, founded in 1983, sits at the center of the live scene. The venue has hosted Nirvana, Motörhead, Stromae, and IAM, programs around a hundred events per year across its main hall and the smaller Bobine space, and was the founding site of IndieSuisse, the Swiss independent music label association, in 2014.
