Antwerp shaped Belgian electronic music more concretely than almost any other city. In the late 1980s and into the 1990s, the local SIS radio show and the USA Imports record shop, which ran its own recording studio, together drove the development of new beat as a genre and established Antwerp as a central hub for rave techno in Belgium. The city also produced several bands whose reach extended well beyond it. dEUS, built around Tom Barman and Klaas Janzoons, came out of Antwerp, as did K's Choice, the rock group formed by siblings Sam and Gert Bettens, and Absynthe Minded, which began as a one-man project by Bert Ostyn in 1999. Club Moral pioneered the noise genre from the same city. The current live infrastructure covers a wide range of scales. De Muze has operated as a jazz café since 1964 and remains the city's most intimate venue for live performance. Ampere handles underground club nights and concerts, while the AFAS Dome Antwerp takes the largest touring acts. Middenvijver Park hosts an open-air series called Live is Live each summer.
