100 Club

The 100 Club at 100 Oxford Street is widely regarded as the oldest independent music venue in the world, operating continuously since 1942 when it opened as a jazz club known as the Feldman Swing Club. It adopted its current name in 1964. The basement venue hosted the first international punk festival in 1976 and the first Northern Soul All Nighter in the 1980s, and its music policy has spanned jazz, blues, reggae, mod, punk, and indie across its history. Located below street level and largely unchanged in atmosphere since the 1980s, it faced closure in 2010 before being saved by a public campaign, and in 2020 became the first grassroots music venue to receive Westminster Council Business Rate Relief.
