A coastal Swedish city of around 60,000 people, Varberg has produced a notably wide range of artists for its size, from the blues-rock power trio Kamchatka, formed here in 2001, to Dick Lövgren, bass guitarist for experimental metal band Meshuggah, to electronic composer Liquid Stranger. That breadth carries through into the live scene itself. Arena Varberg handles mid-size shows with capacity for 600 standing or up to 5,000 in the adjacent outdoor park, while Varberg Theatre provides a dedicated home for classical programming through the Concert Association, which has arranged concerts since 1985. Societén and Black Pearl cover the nightclub and live performance end of the spectrum. The annual Hallifornia Culture Festival each July and the incoming Höstmörker metal event series launching in November 2026 signal a city actively building its calendar rather than coasting on reputation.
