Live Music in Seattle

Few cities have bent the arc of popular music the way Seattle has. The Seattle Sound emerged from the mid-1980s underground and, by 1991 with the release of Nirvana's "Nevermind," rewired mainstream rock entirely. That history runs deep here: Sub Pop Records signed and shaped the bands that defined a generation, while the Central Saloon in Pioneer Square hosted early performances by Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, and Nirvana before any of them were household names.
