Harbiye Cemil Topuzlu Açıkhava Tiyatrosu
Opened in 1947 as an open-air amphitheater, Harbiye Cemil Topuzlu Açıkhava Tiyatrosu was built on a 1930s urban plan by French planner Henri Prost and modified in 1950 with stage advice from German director Carl Ebert. Renamed in 1958 after former Istanbul mayor Cemil Topuzlu, its inaugural performance was Sophocles' Oedipus the King. The venue is a contemporary semi-circular amphitheater designed for unobstructed views, faced with küfeki and Uzunköprü stones. Managed by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, it programs jazz and music festivals, dance, concerts by local and international acts, theatre, stand-up comedy, and conferences, primarily during summer. It is recognized as one of Istanbul's most vital concert and event spaces.
