Whelans
Whelan's, a live music venue on Wexford Street in Dublin, has operated as a dedicated gig space since 1989, when Gary Whelan and Ian Keith renovated the historic pub—which dates to at least 1772—uncovering original wood and stone surfaces. The main room holds 450 standing, with an upstairs venue for 120 and The Parlour for 100; the entire building can accommodate 1,100 for corporate bookings. Known for indie, rock, folk, traditional Irish music, and singer-songwriter nights, the venue also hosts comedy shows and silent discos. Its intimate, warm interior with wooden furnishings and a slightly underground feel fosters close performer-audience connection. Whelan's appeared in the 2007 film P.S. I Love You and is regarded as a key stage for emerging local talent and established international acts, integral to Dublin's nightlife.
