SHOLTO
AGMP Concerts present SHOLTO plays DAVID AXELROD SHOLTO's 12-piece group perform the music of the legendary cinematic soul producer who has been sampled by Madlib, DJ Shadow, Dr. Dre and more. SHOLTO brings Axelrod's enduring legacy to life onstage. Expect the sounds of psychedelia, jazz, soul and the soundtracks of the 60s and 70s, with SHOLTO himself anchoring the performance on drums. David Axelrod gained recognition in the 60s for blending jazz, rock, soul, and classical influences into lush, cinematic compositions. A visionary composer, producer, and arranger, his genre-defying work not only shaped the music of artists such as Lou Rawls and The Electric Prunes, it also became a treasure trove for hip-hop artists, with his work sampled by Dr. Dre, DJ Shadow, A Tribe Called Quest, Pete Rock, Earl Sweatshirt, J Dilla, De La Soul, DJ Krush, Ghostface Killah, Eminem, Drake, GZA and many more. SHOLTO's music expresses a warm array of colours, analogue instrumental grooves and euphoric sentimentality. His music career began in 2013, when a record deal took him to LA, leading to him working with producers like Nick Waterhouse (Allah-Las) before returning to the UK and collaborating with the likes of Inflo (Cleo Sol), and Dan Carey (Wet Leg, Squid).
