The Hug and Pint
The Hug and Pint is a live music venue, bar, and vegan restaurant in Glasgow’s West End, housed in a former pub called The Roxy 171. It opened in June 2015 and takes its name from the 2003 album by Glasgow indie band Arab Strap, whose bassist designed the venue’s logo. The basement music room is an intimate space with a small, barely raised stage, hosting a diverse program of rock, folk, indie, classical, jazz, electronic, hip hop, spoken word, comedy, and all-ages matinee shows. Upstairs, the critically acclaimed vegan kitchen serves Asian-inspired comfort food alongside craft beers and ciders, often from local producers. The venue is independently run and positions itself as a community-oriented grassroots space, aiming for the friendliest atmosphere in Scotland. Its architecture blends a well-worn old Glasgow pub with a modern vegan hangout, and both the staff and food have received critical praise.
