Rock City
Rock City, a 2,000-capacity live music venue and nightclub at 8 Talbot Street in Nottingham, GB, opened on December 11, 1980, founded by George Akins Snr. The building originally opened as the Alexandra Skating Rink in 1876, later became Victoria Halls in 1887, then Palais de Danse, and hosted the first World Professional Darts Championship in 1978 as The Heart of the Midlands. The venue is organized into a main hall, a basement club space called Beta, and multiple bars. It programs rock, indie, hip-hop, electronic, alternative, metal, and pop for both live performances and club nights, and is known for themed club nights that attract a broad audience including students. Rock City has won "UK's best club" at the 2019 Live UK Music Business Awards and "Venue of the Year" for ten consecutive years by Kerrang! magazine. Its blackened walls and intimate atmosphere are frequently noted, and the venue is considered a cornerstone of Nottingham's nightlife and a key stop on the UK touring circuit.
