Parish
The Parish is a live music venue and pub that relocated to The Old Courthouse on Queen Street in 2020 after more than 14 years at its original Kirkgate address. Co-founded by Tom Simpson and two friends, it first opened in May 2006 as a small pub venue with a capacity of around 150. A successful crowdfunding campaign raised nearly £50,000 to help the venue survive the COVID-19 pandemic and fund the move. The current space, created by renovating a disused function building, holds 300 people. The Parish is known as the hub of alternative music in Huddersfield, primarily programming rock, alternative, and metal acts, while also hosting house music, R&B nights, comedy, and open mic nights. Its interior features colourful wall art and funky furnishings, contributing to a distinctive atmosphere. The venue has earned a Google rating of 4.6 out of 5 stars from over 1,700 reviews, reflecting its reputation as a welcoming community space for local and touring artists alike.
