Hare and Hounds
Housed in a Grade II-listed building dating back to 1820, the Hare and Hounds in Birmingham’s Kings Heath suburb is distinguished by its original Art Nouveau tiles in the entry hall and staircase. The venue established itself as a major force in UK live music from 2007, though the building has a much longer pub history. It features two upstairs rooms dedicated to live music and club nights, with a booking policy that spans alternative rock, left-of-centre electronica, jazz, indie, funk, reggae, hip hop, soul, house, techno, drum & bass, and folk. Downstairs bars host weekly pub quizzes, a Saturday afternoon Blues Club, and comedy workshops. The venue is known for its excellent sound system and intimate setting, allowing audiences to get close to performers. In 2016, it won the Best Live Entertainment award at the Great British Pub Awards. The Hare and Hounds is recognized as a key space for alternative artists and has played a vital role in Birmingham’s music community.
