Gorilla
Gorilla opened in September 2012 on the site of the former Green Room, an experimental arts venue that closed in 2011. Occupying a railway arch on Whitworth Street West, the venue features an industrial-chic design with reclaimed school floorboards on the arched ceiling and a backdrop of dark lockers. Its live music hall has a standing capacity of 550 and a seating capacity of 200, offering an intimate mid-tier space for both emerging and established acts. The programming spans indie, rock, soul, R&B, and electronic music, alongside club nights, comedy shows, and private events. A bar and grill and a gin parlour on a mezzanine floor make it a versatile hangout in the Oxford Road Corridor neighborhood. Gorilla is praised for its excellent sound quality and state-of-the-art sound system. After pandemic uncertainty in summer 2020, the venue was saved by a new buyer and remains a key fixture on the Manchester gig circuit.
