Exeter Phoenix
Exeter Phoenix is a multi-arts venue housed in a building originally constructed in 1909, which served as part of the University College of the South West before being acquired in 1984 by Exeter City Council, The Arts Council, and Devon County Council to establish the Exeter and Devon Arts Centre. Following a major remodel funded by National Lottery Grants in 1997, it reopened under its current name in 1999. The venue offers flexible performance spaces: the main Auditorium holds 510 standing or 270 seated, with other configurations for 216 seated or 450 standing; Studio 1 accommodates 150 or 90; and The Workshop holds 40. Programming spans live music across indie, electronic, folk, jazz, reggae, rock, hard rock, metal, drum n' bass, and experimental genres, alongside comedy, film screenings in its solar-powered Studio 74 cinema, theatre, dance, cabaret, spoken word, contemporary art exhibitions, and creative workshops. Exeter Phoenix supports emerging artists through New Band Showcases and Scratch Nights, and hosts festivals including Exeter Pride and Exeter Fringe. The venue features a café bar and is known for excellent sound quality.
