Band On The Wall.
Band on the Wall occupies a building dating to around 1862 in Manchester’s Northern Quarter, but its name comes from the 1930s, when landlord Ernie Tyson installed a stage high on the pub’s far wall to maximize floor space. The venue officially adopted that name in the 1970s when it was purchased as a jazz club. After a £3.5 million transformation completed in 2022, the venue expanded into the adjacent Cocozza Wood building, adding purpose-built education spaces, rehearsal rooms, and studios. The main performance space now holds 500 standing, with a smaller bar area accommodating up to 80, and the entire venue can be hired for events of up to 600. Band on the Wall is operated by the charity Inner City Music and programs jazz, folk, blues, and international genres, alongside club nights and private events. It also runs an education program called World of Music, offering gospel, soul, folk, and world choirs. The venue is step-free throughout its public and artist spaces and features external digital screens showcasing its history.
