Few cities have contributed more globally recognisable rock bands per capita than Sydney, which gave the world AC/DC, INXS, Midnight Oil, the Divinyls, and Wolfmother, among dozens of others. That same creative momentum runs through a live scene anchored by venues ranging from the century-old Enmore Theatre and the iconic Sydney Opera House to purpose-built underground rooms like Dead Set in Darlinghurst and the recently opened Foundry Theatre in Pyrmont. Sydney also pioneered the rave scene from the late 1980s onward, with the city once coined the dance capital of the world as warehouse parties and clubs spread electronic music across the globe.
