The group was founded by guitarists Aaron Haines and Ian Sturgill following the breakup of their previous band, Bodies in the Gears of the Apparatus. The band’s unusual, lengthy name was inspired by a 1989 text titled “Apocalypse” by author William S. Burroughs.
