Michalis Terlikkas was born in 1955 in in Kapouti, Morphou, Cyprus. During the invasion of 1974, he was forced to leave. Terlikkas had an interst in music and singing from a young age, and became a student of the late Andreas Mappouras, who was a legendary Cypriot singer and poet. They recorded a few cassettes together, which included tsiattistá, traditional Cypriot couplets. Terlikkas also worked under Theodoulos Kallinikos, who was a collector and interpreter of traditional Cypriot music.
