Mario Cesa was born in Avellino, where he lives and works. He studied piano and composition at Naples' Conservatory and followed masterclasses on compositions with Luigi Nono and on musical dialectics in HUngary and Holland. He regularly gives lectures on contemporary music at universities in Brazil, Argentina and Mexico.
