Marrabenta veteran Lisboa Matavel, also known as the Troubadour of Mozambique, died on 6 November 2002 at the age of 64. He started singing in the early 1960s, during Mozambique's 'golden age' when Maputo, which was still known as Lourenço Marques under Portuguese rule, was still the musical capital of southern Africa.
