"I think part of the reason people disagree about what is good music is that they listen to it for different reasons or purposes. For me, listening to and making music isn’t mostly about clever wordplay or technical virtuosity. It’s usually about providing a certain kind of experience. One in which our selves are quieted down in the presence of something, of some phenomena, that feels large and strange, like some primal aspect of the universe, as if we’ve discovered these sounds and rhythms rather than created them.
