(b Florence, 16 Dec 1652; d there, 25 Feb 1719). Italian composer. Serving in Florence in posts including cathedral organist and (in 1703-11) maestro di cappella, he wrote oratorios and church and organ music in a contrapuntal, often chromatic idiom. He was reputedly the greatest Italian organist of his time, and also played a five-manual harpsichord invented by Francesco Nigeti.
