Giovanni Antonio Piani (born c. 1678; died after 1737) was an Italian composer and cellist whose documented career is closely associated with London in the early eighteenth century. Like many Italian instrumentalists of his generation, Piani belonged to the wave of musicians who carried Italian styles northward and westward, contributing to the transformation of instrumental music in major European centres outside Italy. While details of his early life and training remain obscure in the readily accessible record
