A native of South Africa, Emlyn Ellis Addison studied music theory and composition at Arizona State University and went on to develop his application of computer music methods at the California Institute of the Arts in 1996. His music is largely centered on quartal harmonic structures, voiced over compound or multi-meters within symmetrical or quasi-symmetrical forms, while applying characteristically "neo-retro" audio processing and sound treatments (new sounds made old, old sounds made new).
