Basil lives in his birth state of Alaska, and has previously resided in San Diego, Washington DC, Baltimore Md., and Columbus Ohio. In 1988 he tried to fulfill his lifelong dream of a career in the Marines but ankle injuries in boot camp got him sent home after only six months with a relatively minor yet permanent medical disability that barred him from reenlistment.
